Board and City Funding Requests Irk County Commissioners

On separate occasions this year the Allegany County Commissioners have received requests from the Board of Education and the city of Cumberland for additional funding to help fill budget shortfalls. It’s a situation that is not sitting well with County Commissioner Bill Valentine. Both the school board and the city pointed to the county’s $25 million reserve fund when making their requests- suggesting that county can easily afford to allocate additional county dollars to other government agencies in need. Valentine points out that it has taken the county several years to get its financial house in order and that it was done through prudent  fiscal planning as well as making many difficult budget cuts…
