Board Of Education Receives Award For Renovation Of Headquarters

The Allegany County Board of Education this week received the Mary Susan Cerutti Historic Preservation award for the renovation of its headquarters at 108 Washington Street. Cheri Yost, chairwoman of the Historic Preservation Commission, called the structure the masterpiece of Washington Street when she presented the bronze plaque to Vince Montana of the BOE.  The award was made at the Cumberland Mayor and Council’s public meeting. Kathy McKenney, the city’s historic planner and preservation coordinator, said the intent of the award is to recognize projects for their quality and to thank people for their contribution to the enhancement of the Canal Place Preservation District and the city.
