Board of Education Requests for $1.3M Raise in Allocation

The Allegany County Board of Education has formally requested a 4.7% budget increase from the County Commissioners- or about $1.3 million above last year’s allocation. The school board headlined a large group of county funded agencies making budget presentations to the county on Thursday- with most holding the line fiscally- and in some cases asking for less money.  The board’s budget includes the hire of five new teachers; additional mental health counselors as well as three new school security officers. The county, as a result of the state’s  maintenance of effort funding formula, is mandated this year to provide an additional $310,000 in education funding.  Commissioners President Jake Shade noted that the board’s increased funding request from the county,  exceeds the increase being sought from the state…

    give them 10%,they do such a great job,the shrinking taxpayer base can handle it,nobody in the education system in alleghany county get paid near what their worth!!
