Officials from Allegany County Government and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources had a "rope and bucket" ceremony for a new boat access point located near the Upper Potomac Industrial Park.
The new access was constructed by employees of the Allegany County Public Works Department, with funding provided by the DNR through boating fees collected statewide.
Department Assistant Secretary for Aquatics Bill Anderson was the keynote speaker, noting the state/county collaboration was completed for less than $60,000. Anderson said most projects that cross his desk carry an additional "zero."
Commissioner President Jake Shade, County Utilities Division Chief Mark Yoder, and Tourism Director Ashli Workman all made remarks pointing to the value of having additional Potomac River access for residents and visitors wishing to use the waterway for recreation and fishing opportunities.
