Body discovered last month identified as LaVale man

The Cumberland Times News reports human remains discovered last month by kayakers on an island shoreline of the Potomac River have been identified as a LaVale man who was reported missing since April. Maryland State Police report that 29 year-old Jack Anthony Swafford had not been seen since March 27 after telling family he was going to McDonald’s on Queen City Drive via the Allegany Highlands bike trail. Authorities say that foul play is not suspected. The Times reports that it was Aug. 24 when two brothers who were fishing in a kayak discovered the human remains. Authorities accessed the island by going through West Virginia to the river via the Miltenberger farm about one mile downstream from Wiley Ford. The missing person report was handled by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Information on Swafford was published at the time in an effort to locate him.
