BOE Approves Modifications To Academic Calendar

May 11th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education approved modifications to the 2012-2013 Allegany County Public Schools academic calendar based on recommendations from the superintendent that were informed by parent, staff and community input.  Proposed key changes to this calendar included the addition of the 190th day for teachers at the beginning of the school year, staggering elementary and secondary parent conference times, and opening schools on days they were originally scheduled to be closed, and creating a spring break after the Easter holiday.  Parents, community members and ACPS staff were surveyed to gain feedback on how many people were in favor  or not in favor of these proposed changes.  Based on the survey results, Superintendent David Cox recommended that the school board approve the modifications with the extended spring break being contingent upon the number of snow days students have missed prior to that time off.  In the event of excessive snow days, the school board may designate make-up days from the week of the scheduled spring break.
