BoE Discusses Budget Priorities

Skyrocketing health insurance costs forced the Allegany County Board of Education to dip into its rainy day fund this year- greatly depleting what at one time had been a healthy reserve.   Addressing those rising costs while at the same time avoiding having to tap into the reserve fund will prove an interesting balancing act for the superintendent and his financial officers as the FY 2018 budget process gets underway in earnest.  The board discussed budget priorities at this month’s regular business meeting and work session. Board member Laurie Marchini said that while it appears there may need to be an effort to have employees contribute more to their health insurance, she wouldn’t want to see a teachers overall compensation package lowered…
