BOE Discusses Idea Of Establishing Tougher Laws With Dealing With Sexual Predators

The Allegany County Board of Education twice this week have discussed the idea of establishing tougher laws in dealing with sexual predators being on school property. Last month a man was witnessed taking pictures of students on the playground at Northeast Elementary school- and it was later determined that he was a registered sex offender; and just last Friday a city man, who is a registered sex offender, was arrested by the C3I Unit after he allegedly entered a local elementary school without permission to do so from the school board. The board discussed the issue during Tuesday’s public work session, and it was an agenda item Monday when the board met with law enforcement and members of the legislative delegation. Delegate Kevin Kelly said one change he feels would help is in the communication area. He says that a police agency has to be notified immediately if school administrators suspect a problem- as opposed to going through the current channels of contacting the school board’s security chief first…
