BoE Discusses School Security In Closed Session

September 11th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education Tuesday discussed a possible course of action to implement for school security- but those talks took place in closed session.  On Monday, Board President Robert Farrell, on “WCBC’s Dave Norman Show” that one of the topics on this week’s agenda would deal with school resource officers.  Farrell said the board could do the hiring, or accept a proposal from an outside firm. During Tuesday’s public session,  a constituent questioned why the issue was not listed on the meeting agenda. That concern was echoed by board member Tammy Fraley- who expressed frustration that she was not notified through official channels and only learned of the plans after hearing Farrell’s radio interview…

The constituent told Farrell she was disappointed to hear him say that retaining a security firm would remove the board from possible liability- adding that the safety of the children- and not potential legal fees should be the priority. Farrell said that board is simply looking to explore all options at this time…
