BoE Moving Forward With Plans To Conduct National Search For New Superintendent

January 15th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education is moving forward with plans to conduct a national search for the next superintendent of schools. The board, by a 3-2 vote last summer, named Jeff Blank as the interim- only to appoint him as the permanent superintendent two months later.  That action was later shot down by the state superintendent of schools pointing to a statute that states the legally designated time period for appointment of a new superintendent for Allegany County Public Schools is February 1 through June 30, 2020.  Since then numerous groups- including the local education association and Chamber of Commerce- have called for a national search. On Tuesday, board member Deb Frank made the motion to begin the process immediately to have a national search conducted. Frank emphasized the selection of the superintendent is the most important decision the board will make…

Board member Robert Farrell said he appreciates the importance of the need to hire the right person for the job- but he also believes the board owes it to the public to proceed in a  fiscally prudent manner…

    This just in……………………………..
Newly named School Board President Tammy Farrell has released an Executive Order naming herself as School Board Superintendent for Life.
The next Executive Order to be put into effect is rumored to be the elimination of two Board positions reducing that Board to three members only.
    Stay tuned for further developments………..

This whole circus show is getting tiresome to watch. By all means, spend money to search for another superintendent. We have a huge surplus of funds. And thanks for letting adults who don’t even know how to get along with one another, be the group that makes big decisions for the future of our school kids. These people can’t even conduct a session without it turning into a disaster. Can we do a nationwide search for some replacements that actually can demonstrate some common sense and maturity.

Why not look for somebody with a business background to cut cost given the decline in enrollment and the tax base

Cutting cost and asking for less money is like cutting a hole in the bottom of your boat. The school board is an advocate for education not a business.

You have more and more people in this County who don’t pay taxes putting more of a burden on the people who do this will collapse eventually

Yeah voters let’s spend some more money we don’t have or can afford to find someone we don’t know and doesn’t know Allegany County as well as many possible locals who could be a reasonable adult to work for and help our children

You want to know something people. We are all individuals with our opinions. My parents taught my brothers and myself that If your opinion is something positive you should share it among yourselves. BUT if it was negative and would hurt someone better you keep it to yourself. I just broke my parents hearts and I apologize Ed for my last insulting comment. Please accept my appology. Thank you!

Hey Folks this was a learning moment for everyone, “If you can’t say something , good, positive, and constructive, DON’T say anything. Let’s work together and be all we can be for Allegany County and each other.
