BoE Preparing To Revise Policy Pertaining To Legal Services

January 16th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education is preparing to revise its policy pertaining to legal services- although the draft will go back to the policy committee for some final tweaking before final action is taken.  Some of the issues that are being fine tuned center on  how and when attorneys could be consulted by school officials; the length of a term a board attorney is appointed; and the use of outside attorneys. Board member Robert Farrell said he has some concerns with language in the proposal that would require board members to contact the superintendent before they request legal assistance…

Board member Ed Root said that the language in question is a budgetary matter- not a question of who is controlling or dictating the board’s legal process…

The board is expected to vote on a revised policy at its February meeting.
