BoE Says Cuts Coming Due To Funding Issues

When the Allegany County Commissioners approved the FY 2017 budget on Thursday evening- it did not include the additional $1.8 million in funding that had been requested by the Board of Education. As a result, school board members have said they have to implement difficult reductions which will mean cutting teaching jobs and eliminating programs.  The county funded the school board at the minimum allowed under state law, known as maintenance of effort- which will mean an additional $332,000 above last year’s allocation- but not close to what the board was seeking.  School Board vice president Laurie Marchini…
