BOE Tables Proposed Ethics Code Policy

September 14th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

At the suggestion of board attorney Gary Hanna, the Allegany County Board of Education Tuesday tabled a proposed ethics code policy.  The ethics code defines gifts as the transfer of any service or thing of economic value regardless of form without adequate and lawful consideration; the conflict of interest portion of the ethics code policy states that an official may not solicit any gift from a person they know; officials can not solicit gifts on behalf of another person, from an individual or lobbyist.  There is already an existing ethics code policy that was approved several years ago but there were some changes in requirements from the state. Hanna says he believes there are too many vague points pertaining to the new requirements that need addressed by the state before he would feel comfortable signing off on it…
