At a special time and different location- the Allegany County Board of Education today will finalize its FY 2013 budget- a task made more difficult than usual by fewer state and local dollars. At 5 p.m., a change from the usual 7 o’clock start, at the Career Center, the school board is scheduled to take a vote on the budget. Last month the Allegany County commissioners voted to reduce school funding to the bare required minimum, called maintenance of effort. School officials had requested more than a half a million dollars above last year’s local allocation. The concern is that the series of cuts will negatively impact a variety of programs.
