BoE To Finalize FY 2020 Budget At Meeting Tuesday Night

June 17th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday night to finalize the FY 2020 budget. The school board had been seeking an increase of $1.1 million from the county commissioners- however that did not happen. The county is providing the board $30.7 million for 2020. The figure includes no county increase outside of a $310,000 mandated increase from the state that was the result of changes in its funding formula.  The Board advocated for the funding hike despite the drops in enrollment that have taken place in the local school system for several years. During last week’s school board meeting, the members were at odds over finalizing the budget, with the majority voting to hold off on a vote until one more session could take place to go over the final numbers. Board member David Bohn told WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” that he saw no reason to rush the budget to a vote last week when it isn’t due until the end of the month- adding that  the public deserves a chance to see more details…
