BOE To Re-Bid Allegany High School Project

October 15th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The morning after the Allegany County Board of Education announced a change in strategy for funding the proposed new Allegany High School it became clear that the school board and the county commissioners are still not close to an agreement on local dollars. The plan now on the table would see the board vote to rescind the current project, and re-bid it. By doing that, thanks to a change in the state formula used to determine school construction costs- the state allocation would increase by ten million dollars. That still means an estimated $17 million in local funds would be required.  One ongoing point of contention centers around the initial $9 million plus commitment made by the county for the project. Board member Laurie Marchini tells WCBC News that it has been clear from the beginning that the county has low balled the project…..
