June 18th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports Borough police are investigating a bomb threat at the Somerset County Assistance Office along Stayrook Street. The building has been evacuated and the office remains closed, according to a release from borough police.

Officers still are on the scene.

Police received a report around 9 a.m. Thursday that a written note containing a bomb threat had been discovered at the office, the headquarters for local eligible people to apply for and receive government financial and food assistance and other services.

State Police in Somerset also have responded along with a Pennsylvania State Police bomb detection dog team, and authorities have established an exterior perimeter, though there are no other homes or building immediately nearby, police said.

No other evacuations or road closures were necessary, police said.
