Break-In at Naylors Hardware

On Sunday morning, 04/29/2012, at approximately 8:15 AM, the Cumberland Police responded to Naylor’s Ace Hardware on Industrial Boulevard after receiving a call from a passer by that the glass had been broken out of the front door. When Officers arrived, they determined that the business had been broken into and numerous items stolen. Preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the suspects had entered the store, during the early morning hours, through the front door after breaking the glass out. The suspects then entered the office area by forcing open a door. A safe containing an undisclosed sum of cash was taken from the office. Also taken were numerous power hand tools, including chain saws and string trimmers, and a plasma television. The total loss is valued at over $4500.00.  The scene was processed by an Evidence Collection Technician with the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.  Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) also responded to assist with the investigation.              The safe was recovered later that day at a location on Starlite Drive, just off Messick Road.  Anyone with information regarding this case can call the Cumberland Police at 301-777-1600, or the C3I Unit at 301-777-0326. If callers wish to remain anonymous, they can call the Allegany/Mineral County Crime Solvers at 301-722-4300, where callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1500.00 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
