After learning of comments made by a member of the Mountain Maryland Trails organization regarding a bridge project- Allegany County Administrator David Eberly said he wants to see the item placed on next Thursday’s work session agenda. The commissioners plan to discuss their concerns with plans to convert a county-owned railroad bridge as a biker-pedestrian spur of the Great Allegany Passage Trail. The Mountain Maryland Trails organization has plans to convert the old Western Maryland Railroad Bridge at Wills Creek and Mechanic Street into a link to bring hikers and bikers into the North Cumberland area. Addressing the Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee last week, the groups Treasurer, Larry Brock said the bridge would be decked to accommodate bikers and hikers, with the work to be funded by local and private funding sources. The cost of the project will be about $75,000, down from an estimated $500,000 to $750,000,. Local volunteer and inmate labor will be used to construct the bridge. While voicing any specific concerns, Eberly said he believes there needs to be a closer examination of the project before the county would be ready to sign off on it…
