Brodie Proposes Plan to Help Volunteer Fire and Rescue Departments

With volunteer fire and rescue departments struggling to stay afloat financially- Allegany County Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr. has put a proposal on the table that will help those departments, while at the same time avoid creating additional taxes for county residents.  Brodie- noting that projected tax revenue from the proposed Dans Mountain wind farm is estimated at $600,000- is suggesting that the county earmark a quarter of those new dollars to go toward fire and rescue departments.  In addition he proposes 25 percent to fund teacher pensions;  25 percent to county debt service and a portion of the remaining revenue to the county’s pay as you go fund, which allows up-front payment for projects. Brodie said its important for the county to address its debt load, as well as to set aside funding for some future capital projects…
