Buck Firearm season opens November 21

November 11th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

West Virginia's traditional buck firearm season starts Nov. 21, the Monday before Thanksgiving. The timing, since 1965, is intended to balance some hunting in the mating season while allowing for the herd's annual renewal. According to state game management officials, residents who want to take an addition buck are required to buy stamp for $21 before the season. Resident landowners and their resident children or parents can do that on their own land without the extra stamp. Non-resident hunters have to buy a $43 stamp to take an extra buck. Most counties are open to antlerless deer hunting during the traditional buck gun season. Hunters can shoot two deer on the same day, but only one can be an antlered buck.
