Buckel Responds to AFSCME Endorsement of Walker

September 13th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Democrat Penny Walker, running against incumbent Jason Buckel for the Maryland House 1B seat, picked up a key endorsement this week from AFSCME Local 898 which represents correctional officers.  AFSCME 898 was in the news last week, when it’s president Jeff Grabenstein said that the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) has not done enough to keep officers and staff safe.  Two workers at the Western Correctional Institution were sent to the hospital last week after being potentially exposed to a letter soaked in an unknown substance. Walker discussed the endorsement this week  on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show”…

Buckel said the union’s decision doesn’t bother him, but he does find it surprising given his record when it comes to supporting legislation designed to help law enforcement and correctional officers…
