Cab Driver Robbed

On Saturday at 4:16 pm officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to Family Dollar located at 60 Queen City Drive for a robbery complaint.  Once officers arrived at the location, they located the victim who was a cab driver.  While speaking with the victim, she informed the officers that a white male walked up to the cab, asked for a cigarette and three dollars.  When the victim got out her money, the suspect reached into the cab, grabbed the money and fled the area on foot.  The victim was able to provide officers with a detailed description of the suspect and also remembered the suspect being in her cab in the past.   The victim was able to provide officers with an address where she had picked the suspect up in the past.  Officers responded to 321 North Centre Street where they located and detained a suspect who matched the description given by the victim.  The victim was later transported to the location where she identified the subject as the one who took her money.  The suspect was identified as, William Harry Thayer Jr.  Thayer was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Thayer was later transported to the Allegany County District Court Commissioners Office for a bond hearing.  At the conclusion of the hearing, Thayer was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center and held on $5,000 bond.

Arrested: William Harry Thayer Jr.                                       Age: 46 of Cumberland, Maryland

Charges: Robbery and Theft less than $1,000.
