Cambridge residence hall closing at FSU

September 19th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Frostburg State University has decided to close Cambridge Hall, a residence hall, following moisture problems that developed following mechanical upgrades over the summer. The 154 students who reside in the residence hall will be transferred to other campus housing.

Mold was discovered in the building before the fall semester began, and an outside firm was brought in to perform mold abatement and environmental tests. Following the abatement, students moved into the hall, but the moisture issues persisted, exacerbated by an extremely wet summer. Concern about the inability to quickly address the source of moisture and the potential return of the mold prompted the decision to close the building.

Students will be assigned new rooms within the next 10 days, with moves happening floor by floor. There is sufficient space in other campus housing to accommodate all Cambridge Hall students. Refunds or credits will be offered to those students moving from single rooms into double rooms.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience this situation is causing these students, and we will do what we can to make the transition as smooth as possible,” said Dr. Ronald Nowaczyk, FSU president.
