Canal Place Authority Gives Overview of River & Rails Festival

The first River & Rails Festival scheduled earlier this month did not go as planned- and heavy rains throughout the  Sept. 7, 8 and 9 weekened at Canal Place forced most activities to be cancelled and kept crowds away. The event was a collaboration between Canal Place and the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.  Dee Dee Ritchie, Canal Place executive director, said the goal was to raise funds and awareness of the proposed River Park at Canal Place project which is now  in the planning stage. The project is expected to include a whitewater kayak and canoeing course, spectator viewing area, river trail and scenic overlook on Knobley Mountain at Ridgeley, West Virginia.
