Canal Place Board Will See Two New Members

The embattled board of directors of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority will see two new members in the near future. Allegany County Commissioner Mike McKay has been appointed by the governor to fill the seat previously held by Orphans Court Judge Mark Widmyer- although that is pending senate approval; and Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim will represent the city, following the two year term of Councilman Nick Scarpelli on the board. It’s a controversial period for Canal Place, as the debate continues over the future of the historic Footer Dye Works building. Some favor continuing to work toward a push for private commercial development opportunities; while others would rather just see the building demolished and the land utilized for other purposes.  Mayor Grim tells WCBC News that he has no preconceived notions about Footer Dye Works…
