Canal Place Meeting Yields Discussion; No Solution

October 4th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Some general suggestions were discussed but no concrete solutions resulted from a 90 minute special meeting of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority on Thursday afternoon. The meeting, held at the Allegany Museum, was hosted by the Authority and attended by the District One legislative delegation with the focus being on the fiscal difficulties facing Canal Place in the coming year with city and county hotel/motel revenues coming to an end for the project.  Auhtority Chair Andy Vick has written to the city and the county requesting that that revenue stream continue- however that appears unlikely based on public comments made by Commissioners President Mike Mckay and Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim. Vick began the discussion in a frank manner saying that he would anticipate public dollars being needed for Canal Place for several years.
