Canal Place Officials Optimistic About River Park Project Grants

From day one there has been strong across the board support for the proposed River Park at Canal project- and Canal Place officials said this week that they are optimistic there are any number of state and federal grants that could be secured for the effort. Funding for the project was the focal point of a brief regular meeting of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority this week. When complete, the river park attraction is expected to feature walking trails, parking, kayak and canoe docks, a spectator viewing area and a whitewater course in the North Branch of the Potomac River. Dee Dee Ritchie, Canal Place executive director, and board chair Janice Keene met with the legislative delegation in Annapolis last week to discuss funding options.     If I remember right the sediment in the river has dioxin in it if this is true maybe they should look into that before spending a bunch of money
