Canal Place project moving forward

November 29th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority Chair Andy Vick can't provide details but say there are on going talks with a private developer looking at the Footer Dye Works building. The Pennsylvania based company, which has not been publicly indentified to date, is said to be looking at a major commercial development at Canal Place expanding beyond the Footer Building and including the purchase of the Air Con building. WCBC News has learned that the tentative plans would see the top levels of the Footer building being developed into high end housing units; the middle section targeted for executive office space and the ground floor for a restaurant and shops. The Air Con building would be converted into a movie theatre as part of the project. For this to come to fruition however, the company is looking for the Authority to secure approximately two million in state funds for upgrades to the Footer building. Vick said last week that the Authority should know within six months if the project is viable.
