Candidates Debate for Commissioner Position

June 17th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The four Republican candidates for Allegany County Commissioner met Monday night at Allegany College of Maryland as they discussed a wide range of issues.  Challenger Mark Widmyer questioned how the Board of Education went about seeking bids for the new Allegany High School.

Incumbent commissioner Bill Valentine said the county helped fund Mountain Ridge and he contends that the funding for Allegany is a fair deal.

Challenger Jake Shade said the county needs to take advantage of state money while it is available.

Incumbent Creade Brodie said the county has to hold the line on funding or risk future solvency.
