Car Fire May Be Due to Mobile Meth Lab

On 10/27/14 at 2:35pm the Cumberland Police Department and Cumberland Fire Department responded to the 200 block of N. Centre Street for a report of a vehicle fire. Witnesses advised that the vehicle was traveling on the roadway when a fire started in the interior, the car then rolled to a stop and two occupants jumped from the car. The fire was extinguished by the Cumberland Fire Department. One occupant was transported to the hospital by CFD for the treatment of burns with the second occupant fleeing the scene prior to the arrival of the police. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire may be related to clandestine drug manufacturing. The 200 block of N Centre Street has been closed and will be closed for several hours. The scene has been made safe and there is no danger to the public. Agencies on the scene include the Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department, State Fire Marshal, C3I Narcotics, and the Western Maryland Clandestine Lab Team. The case is under investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.
