November 11th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The CSX crossing at Knox Street in Cumberland was closed for about three hours Saturday morning after a car crashed into a train.

An off duty officer initially came upon the mishap at around 7:15 AM, and subsequent investigation revealed that the driver of the car failed to stop and remain behind the activated crossing gate. The car hit the dual locomotive assembly, which was traveling at about 10 miles per hour, and was dragged about 50 feet.

The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center with non life threatening injuries. He was charged with five motor vehicle infractions, including reckless and negligent driving. As you might suspect, the car had to be towed from the scene after sustaining significant damage.
