Maryland U.S. Senator Ben Cardin earlier this month hosted his inaugural nonprofits grants workshop. Approximately 250 people attended the event, geared toward professionals who work in the nonprofit sector. As a result of federal budget cuts and the elimination of earmarks, nonprofit organizations are increasingly relying on grants to fund initiatives in health care, law enforcement, affordable housing and other programs. Cardin said he wanted to ensure that nonprofits have the tools they need to access and successfully apply for grants.
