Cardin, Van Hollen Announce $300,000 for Garrett County Airport

August 8th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) have announced $300,000 in federal funding from the Department of Transportation for Garrett County Airport in Oakland, Maryland. This funding will go toward expanding aircraft parking space to accommodate a larger number of planes, passengers, and cargo.

“I frequently hear from Western Maryland constituents just how much their local economies depend on strong transportation infrastructure, and Garrett County Airport provides a prime example,” said Senator Cardin, Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee. “This grant will allow the airport the potential to expand the number of planes, passengers and cargo that use it every day, providing a boost to regional economic activity.”

“The Garrett County Airport provides crucial services to the surrounding community – from supporting the local tourism industry to assisting with emergency operations. This funding will help the airport continue to serve as a resource to the people of Garrett County,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committees. “I will keep fighting for the investments our local transportation hubs need to serve Marylanders and grow our economy.”

These DOT grants will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program. The program funds various types of airport infrastructure projects across the country, including repairs and upgrades to runways, taxiways, airport signage, lighting, and markings – all while creating thousands of well-paying, local jobs.

Talk about wasting a lot of our tax money. I was there to pick up my brother on 07/04/18 holiday. His plane was the only one up there on the Busiest weekend for planes – the entire year.
Porkbelly fed spending at it’s worst. The county should be ashamed accepting this wasteful spending!! Don’t believe me… I challenge anyone to go to Garrett co airport any day of the year. Porkbelly spending at it’s worst!!
