Cause of Bishop Walsh Road house fire “undetermined”

October 23rd, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The cause of a recent fire that destroyed a residence at 1045 Bishop Walsh Road has been ruled as undetermined, according to the Cumberland Fire Department. The Cumberland Times News reports  Lt. W. Shannon Adams, the city fire marshal, said the amount of damage and the structural instability of the burned-out residence prevented further investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. The fire occurred at about 1 a.m. Oct. 16 and caused a loss estimated at $450,000.  Adams said his investigation, along with consultation with investigators of the owner's insurance company, factored in the decision to leave the cause of the blaze as undetermined. No one was at home when fire swept through the single-story structure reportedly owned by Dr. Wonsock Shin. Residents in the area and a passerby later reported the smell of smoke in the area hours before the fire broke out, according to the fire department.
