On November 28th 2019, an Officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on North Centre Street for an equipment violation. The officer spoke with the operator who identified himself as Tarus Terril Watkins, and another passenger. The officer then requested a K-9 unit to respond and an Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to assist. The K-9 then indicated a positive alert on the vehicle. After a search of the vehicle and Watkins’ person the officer located fentanyl, a schedule II narcotic. Watkins was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of paraphernalia. Watkins was then taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was released pending trial.
