CEDC Eyes Spring 2020 Groundbreaking for Downtown Remodel

It is easy to get lost in the maze of plans, studies and analysis simultaneously in motion centered on the redesign of the downtown Cumberland Mall- but one of the more important bits of information should be available next week. On Monday the EADS Group will present the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation with preliminary costs estimates for the project.  So far estimates floated as to the potential total cost for the effort that will include the mall being re-opened to vehicular traffic range anywhere from $5 to  $8  million.  Those plans also call for the creation of limited parking; a bike lane; trees, benches, restrooms and a complete re-do of the underground utility infrastructure.  CEDC executive director Paul Kelly says that to date- about half of the funding has been identified.  With funds being sought on the federal, state and local level- he says there is a strong desire for a spring 2020 groundbreaking…
