Officials with the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation are moving forward with a comprehensive housing analysis for Cumberland. The study is being conducted by Lisa Sturtevant & Associates of Alexandria, Virginia with a cost not to exceed $65,010 and a target completion date of sometime next month. The study includes a needs assessment, including low income needs, and a five-year plan. A primary goal is determining if area employers feel there is adequate quality housing to accommodate any potential new employees moving to the area. CEDC executive director Paul Kelly said potential expansions by employers such as Northrop Grumman and IBM, both located at Rocket Center, West Virginia, on Allegany County’s border could result in a sizable increase in housing needs. Kelly said the study would determine the ideal housing for the areas in the city that developers could use to construct housing clusters or subdivisions. Another study. Another packet of papers to sit on a book shelf in city hall or the county building telling us what can be determined already by those who live here.

So David, exactly which group of people who live here should we ask? It’s hard finding six people who live here to agree on where to go out to dinner.
