Starting today the westbound center lane of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge will close temporarily on weekdays, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.
On top of the right lane already being closed, the center lane of the westbound span will close weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to allow crews to lay concrete during the warmer hours of the day, officials said.
Transportation officials also said wide loads, vehicles greater than 10 feet wide, will be restricted from crossing the westbound span during the same time frame each day.
This closure is a part of the large project set to replace the bridge's deck surface, replace lane-use signals and other changes.
In hopes of speeding up the project, officials announced last week crews would work day and night shifts, seven days a week, even during the week of Thanksgiving.
