Chamber director steps down to take position with CEDC

September 23rd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Longtime executive director of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Stu Czapski will be laeving that post to take a position with the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation. Both the Chamber and the CEDC have released statements:

The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce announces that Executive Director, Stu Czapski, has informed the Board of Directors that he will leave his position on November 1, 2020. We wish him the best of luck as he pursues a new opportunity with the Cumberland Economic Development Committee as their Economic Development Specialist.

While his contributions to our community are too numerous to list, we'd like to thank Stu for his years of dedicated service to the Allegany County Chamber. In addition to serving as Executive Director, he has been a member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board, and a 1999 graduate of Leadership Allegany!.  He has played a critical role in the development and success of our organization and has represented the Chamber well.

A search committee is being formed and a formal Job Advertisement will be forthcoming shortly. The Chamber's Executive Committee along with Executive Assistant Peg McKenzie and Administrative Assistant Krista Llewellyn will continue to oversee the operations of the Chamber.

Again, we can not thank Stu enough for the passion and the enthusiasm he has given the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce over the years. He has been thoughtful of those he represents and has been a voice for the sole proprietorships to small and large corporations and non-profits.

If you have any questions or concerns during this transition process, you can email Nicole Wigfield, Chairwoman of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, at nicole@conxx.net.

The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce the hiring of Stuart “Stu” Czapski as Economic Development Specialist.
Stu previously served as the Executive Director of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce, a position he held since 2010.
“Stu brings a vast amount of experience to the organization and is well positioned to hit the ground running,” said CEDC Executive Director Matthew Miller. “Having lived in Cumberland for the last 24 years, with experience in small business advocacy, banking, and local manufacturing, he is the ideal candidate for this role and will be a tremendous asset to the CEDC.”
A large part of the Economic Development Specialist position is overseeing the organization’s Business Retention and Expansion efforts. As Cumberland is currently experiencing a welcome influx of those who put a high value on "quality of life," there has never been a more critical time to engage our business community and attract new businesses and remote workers.
