On Friday at approximately 4:30 Troopers from the MD State Police in Hagerstown responded to a Tractor Trailer accident on N/B I-81 at Rt 40. They found a 2011 Mack tractor pulling a 1995 Freahauf Trailer had for unknown reasons drifted off the right side of N/B I-81 and struck a guardrail and then a bridge support under E/B Rt 40. The vehicle burst into flames. The trailer was loaded with recyclables. The vehicle was owned by Chambersburg Waste & Paper Co.
The operator Donald W. Hall, 59 yoa, of Warm Spring Rd, Chambersburg, PA succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. N/B I-81 was closed for several hours while the burnt bridge was inspected by personnel.
No other vehicles involved.
