Change In State Could End Board Of Education Feud

It would take a change in the state law, but one possible way to end the annual conflicts between the board of education and Allegany County Commissioners would be to grant the school board taxing authority. If the board had the authority to tax, it could generate revenue and fund education without relying on the county. It is common for education systems in many states. County Administrator David Eberly made the recommendation to at least explore the concept during a recent work session…

    That’s just a great idea, (NOT), to let the B.O.E. tax us too.
    Apparently people in government think that the citizens of this country have money trees from which to harvest more money as needed.
    Problem is those who have to work for a living do not have access to the “Government Money Tree”.
    The very wealthy obviously do not have to worry, nor do the folks who have learned from one generation to the next how to “milk” the system.
    Unfortunately the only folks left to pay for the above will be the relatively few who are able to get and maintain a job. Bob Malamis
