Charges To Be Dropped Against Maryland Parent Who Lashed Out Against Common Core At A Public Meeting

The Baltimore County State’s Attorney is reportedly dropping all charges against Robert Small, the Maryland parent who was arrested after speaking out against Common Core at a public meeting last week. While not everyone has lashed out against the program as emotionally as Mr. Small- there has been no shortage of critics. Created by governors and state education officials, the Common Core standards aim to create consistency in what students learn from kindergarten through 12th grade. The Common Core standards do not dictate curriculum, but the standards have sparked pushback from critics on the left, who are opposed to standardized testing and some of whom think the standards are too weak, as well as opponents on the right, who see the standards as a federal takeover of education.  Allegany County Superintendent of Schools Dr David Cox said he believes much of the backlash is simply because it is such a major change being implemented in a relatively short time period…
