City Administrator to Be Permanently Appointed

December 12th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

WCBC News has learned that acting Cumberland City Administrator Jeff Rhodes will be appointed to the post on a permanent basis in a matter of weeks. Rhodes became acting administrator at the end of June replacing  Jeff Repp who resigned after 17 years. A search committee was selected to aid the council in the process to name a successor to Repp- and while a number of people inquired about the vacancy- the job was never advertised by the city. The council has met in executive, or closed  sessions on a number of occaisions in recent weeks to discuss the potential appointment of Rhodes, most recently last Tuesday. A source familiar with the situation tells WCBC News that the two sides are ironing out some final details- and that an announcement is imminent. Prior to assuming the interim post, Rhodes served Cumberland as the Director of Administrative Services.  Rhodes has previous service as the city administrator in Frostburg as well as in Keyser and Grafton, W.Va.  In a related note, former administrator Repp, although a finalist for a number of similar posts in other states, is still in Cumberland, having not yet secured a new position.
