City Approves State Grant Money To Help Battle Opioid Epidemic

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council this month approved almost a quarter-million in state grant money to help battle the opioid epidemic.  Cumberland Police Chief Charles Hinnant said that the heroin crisis is increasingly being linked to other criminal activity. The city officials voted unanimously to award the $220,000 grant from the Safe Streets Initiative, administered by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. Allegany County State Attorney Mike Twigg said recently that it’s a seller’s market in Cumberland when it comes to heroin, and that is what is behind the massive influx of opioids in the area, saying that the price doubles and sometimes triples…
