City Budget Finalized

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council finalized the FY 2013 budget Tuesday with the only real hit for citizens coming by way of a slight increase in sewer rates.  At a meeting last month, the Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to increase residential sewer rates by 7.5 percent, or an average of around $2.36 per month, so that the city can replenish its depleted sewer fund. Initially, City Administrator Jeff Rhodes had planned to propose an 8 percent increase, which would cost the average resident around $2.51 per month. Also approved earlier by the council was a series of ordinances setting appropriations for the fiscal year 2013 budget, including the general fund, special purpose fund, water fund, sewer fund and special taxes in the Shades Lane Development District.
