September 17th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland city staff has been reviewing  the 17 bid packages, recommendations and specifications of the contractors for the demolition of the former Memorial Hospital building.  The bids received ranged from a low of $1.6 million to a high of nearly $4 million. City Administrator Jeff Rhopes said he hopes that portion of the process can be completed by the end of the month, and the demolition to being shortly after the bid award-  and should be completed within 365 days.  While all of the efforts to maintain the building for different uses  have proven unsuccessful, many city residents have said they will be sorry to see the facility torn down.
