City Council Honors Police; Three New Officers Sworn in

Local law enforcement was on full display at this week’s meeting of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council as one officer was honored and three new officers were sworn in. In other news from the meeting, Mayor Brian Grim and the council members recognized the Cumberland Police Department’s 2015 Officer of the Year. The honor went to Patrolman Justin W. Gordon. Police Chief Charles Hinnant praised Gordon’s performance as stellar- pointing to one particular incident when he arrested three armed drug dealers, and recovering five thousand dollars worth of crack cocaine. Three new police officers were also sworn in by Grim. The new officers are Jacob Martel, Tyler Cheng and Joseph Ashby. The officers will join the department with the rank of patrolman.
