City Council race evolves

April 2nd, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The dynamics of this year’s Cumberland City Council race have been in a flux for several months now- however it will all be sorted out by the end of the day with the city’s Primary Election. When the deadline to file ended in early January,  there were a total of ten candidates signed up. A few days later , the lone incumbent in the race  Harold “Butch” Hendershot decided to withdraw – ending an 18 year career in city hall. In early Feburary, Nicole Wagoner- pointing to increasing professional commitments- announced that she would suspend her campaign. Despite dropping out,  since it was after the deadline to officially withdraw, her name remained on the ballot. This past Friday, Nick DeArcangellis said  that  he would no longer be an active candidate as a result of growing responsibilities-  urging citizens to cast their vote for other candidates. On Saturday, Ms Wagoner at the urging of supporters, combined with  an anticipated decline in out of state management obligations- decided to re-new her bid for the council seat.
