City Council To Meet Tuesday

July 9th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Because of the Independence Day holiday, the meeting of the Cumberland Mayor and City council was moved from last Tuesday to this Tuesday. With the budget issues settled for the time being, the agenda is routine in nature, with reports from the Fire and Public Works Departments, but does include a handful of interesting items on the Consent Agenda.

The Mayor and City Council are expected to approve a proposal by Carl Belt Incorporated to do an emergency repair on a water line that ruptured last weekend at the intersection of Decatur and Glenn Streets. The cost to repair the 24 inch water main is not to exceed $95,600 according to the meeting agenda.

Cumberland Police Chief Charles Hinnant is poised to accept a state grant of around $66,000 from Governor Larry Hogan's Office of Crime Control and Prevention for personnel and related expenses in developing and implementing a strategy to combat the local heroin crisis, hopefully leading to a decrease in overdoses and drug related crime.
